History: Born into a long running coven of witches, Zindy was something a free spirit from day one. Never really jiving with her mother's world of darkness and curses. Her mother was the head mistress of the Great Order of the Eye. A coven that worshipped the Eye of a long dead Dark God. It's Eye being all that remained. Storing all it's immense power to be channeled by it's followers. Zindy was initiated into the Coven, but she only stuck around a few short years as a full member.
Her free spirit often lead her to seeking other outlets. Becoming a big fan of the peace and love movement from the 60's/70's and trying to help recreate that love for the world. Always trying to bring more good into the world than her coven wanted. She became a flower child in a world of wicked witchery.
Everything changed not long after her 19th birthday and she met a guy. Billy's dad! They had a whirlwind romance and in the end they ran away together. Got married overnight. Billy wasn't far behind. She'd always been a rebel, and trying to have a normal, happy life outside of her mother's chaos was her best attempt yet. She avoided using her magic from then on. Trying to enjoy a simple life with her family.
Tragedy would strike when she lost Billy and her husband shortly after him. Zindy's attempts at disconnecting from magic neve really succeeded, leading her back to that world slowly. She found herself among old supernatural friends. Partying with all sorts of cryptids and creatures. During that time she just wandered trying to find herself again. She bounced around the country, trying to find a new start.
Eventually a new start sort of fell into her lap when she met a handsome demonic fellow. They got along well and one thing lead to another, with her second born, George, being the result. While she was good friends with Georgie's dad, it was never really love, and they had a very amicable split. He still sees George all the time.
Moving back to Serling, where her previous life had been, she returned to the house she left behind from then and tried a new start. While she loved raising George, Billy haunted her dreams and never really left her soul in peace. She felt so awful that she lost her first son and that pain never eased, it only ached worse and worse each day.
One night while going through some of her old coven books, she found a particular spell. One that claimed to be powerful enough to bring back a soul with zero corruption like usually seen in the resurrection process. It was a difficult spell, the kind one only tried once in a lifetime, but she had to see if she could do it. So she cast the spell, using an immense amount of energy to drag Billy's soul out of the afterlife and back to his body.
Which by then, was a skellington. There were some unforeseen consequences to her spell. Like dragging a demon out of the afterlife as well and getting him trapped in a Jack-O-Lantern. Along with some other, yet seen problems they'll have to deal with when the time comes. Nothing comes free in magic, after all. Zindy now knows that better than most.
Nowadays she's just happy to have her boys around to take care of. Single parenting is already hard enough, let alone when she's got two supernatural kids with a propensity for attracting danger. While she trusts her kids to stay safe, if need be she's ready to jump in and protect them. Fiercely so. She's not really the mom to mess with.
Creator's Notes: Zindy really found her role in 2019. Up to that point she was just kind of 'the mom' of the group. She was a mom. She did mom stuff. Not much else. All I really had in mind was this one running gag where Billy would try and tell on George for doing something evil and she'd always handwave it away as boys being boys. Seeing their conflict as just sibling rivalry.
She was going to be married to a lawyer, re-married after losing Billy's dad and he was supposed to be George's dad on Earth. It's something I'll get more into with the next profile or George.
Once I ditched the magic lake that brought people back from the dead and decided Zindy would bring Billy back that informed her character a lot more. Suddenly she had a lore more to do. She's a witch, which means she's got spells, arcane knowledge, all kinds of creepy secrets of the universe. Blending that with a flower child hippie vibe seemed like a lot of fun.
Her hippie qualities were inspired by my own mother. She was never the most hardcore hippie but back in the day she was part of the movement, for sure. My mom was always a very chill parent, not too hands on or worried about me getting into trouble. She knew if I messed up and scraped my knee, I was gonna learn not to do that crap again. Zindy is very much the same. She knows her kids are smart, and they may need to learn a lesson or two, but she's still there for them at the end of the day.
Zindy has a fairly long planned out arc through the series. Her resurrecting Billy did not come for free and bringing up Oltan or another stray soul is hardly the worst that will follow. Using up that much power opens a door that can't be so easily closed.
I'm really happy with Zindy and the way she's grown more important to the overall story. We'll get some fun moments with her, old friends, new acquaintances and don't forget about her mother running that coven.
